Hi Peeps! I have something quite different for you today.  I decided to stretch my horizons and take a class at Kit And Clowder.  It was a real challenge for me! I wanted to learn more about coloured pencil, and so I took Alyce's coloured pencil class for February, and these Roses were the image used in the class.  The image itself (uncoloured digital line drawing) can be found at Power Poppy and it is called, "Everything's Rosey".  I printed it very faintly so that the lines would not show (known in the rubber stamp community as "no lines colouring).  For this lesson, I decided to print it at approx 4x5 inches on my 5 x 7 paper.  Let me say this; paper is important.  The stuff I used was not meant to take the punishment I gave it, and the coloured pencils sometimes started tearing and disintegrating where I went over it too hard and too many times.  Next time, I'll get the proper paper before I attempt another one of these!
I have been asked how I did the background.  I simply followed (loosely) the instructions from Alyce in the class: layer, layer, layer, and with much time and patience, this is what I came up with.  I did stray a lot from the style of colouring Alyce shows in the class, but the principals are the same.  Just layer after layer to get the effect you want.
I felt it was important to include some of the cup colours and roses and leaves colours into the background.  When you do that, you bring in a sense of unity to the picture, by having some of the foreground colours included in the background.

I'm beginning to create blackish areas using colour opposites; in this case, dark greens combined with dark reddish colours like Indian Red and Caput Mortuum.

I did use some black, but to be honest, by this point, it was not going down as black; it was rather, sitting atop all the layers and giving me a grey layer. I just went with it!

I went over the cup again using some of the same dark blues I had used on the background, adding touches of those colours onto the "white" parts of the cup, to unify the picture some more.  It is always effective to use colours that are close to the white object, on the white object, since white reflects the colours that are surrounding it.  I also deepened the shading on the yellow parts of the cup.  For the finishing touches, I used black in the deepest parts of the shading on the roses - just a touch here and there, of black in all the shadows.  You can really see the difference in the depth those final touches make by looking at the previous picture as opposed to this one below.
Thank you for looking!

Birdies On Corn

Hi Peeps! Here's some other sort of "peeps" ha! This is "Birdies on Corn" , a rubber image I did for Whimsy a little while ago.  I'm making a card for someone who has two little budgies just like these guys, so I think he'll like the card.  I used the sentiment from my "Happy Bird-day" set, and the balloon from my "Hay Horsey!" set.  I just stamped the balloon multiple times and fussy cut them, and glued them on in that configuration. The cute paper is from Whimsy, designed by Tracy, from her "Soft Spring Greens" set. She has the most beautiful papers, you really ought to go see them at the Whimsy Store!
I coloured the image with Copics. I do apologize that I don't have a complete colour list today.  I know I used a lot of YG's and of course Y's, and a bit of blue and YR's on this card.  And even some Greens. But I don't have the list anymore.
God bless you guys, thanks for coming by today!

Birdie Friend

Hi Peeps! Here is a newly released rubber image, "Birdie Friend" ,
fresh off the press at Whimsy today!
I spent a long time colouring this one with Copics! Here is your colour list:
Hair: E40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 47
Skin: E000, 00, 01, 11 and V91 and 93 with R30 for her blush.
Overalls: R81, 83, 85, V91, 93, 95 with some blender for highlights, and RV02 on the heart and button
Ribbon: RV02, 10, V91, 93, 95
Flowers: R81, 83, 85, 56, stems and leaves: YG03, 06, 25, 67
Grass: YG61, 17, 67, 99, G82, 94, BG96
Birdie: B52, B000, BG72, R30, RV42, V93
White blouse: V91, 93, B0000
Background: I used a lot of colour layering for the background.  I started with YG61.  I found it too dark and too green, and so I put several layers of RV0000 over top, as well as a final coat of the blender 0. Adding the red violet over the green greyed it down a bit, which is what I wanted.
I lucked out with the hair - my E44 tip is so worn that it comes to a nice sharp point, and by barely touching it to the paper, I was able to get these tiny hair lines.  Yay for old markers! lol
I'm giving you a super big close up so you can see all the colour details!
The gorgeous papers are from Tracy's set at Whimsy, "Softly Spring".  I can't get over how gorgeous her papers are.  If you haven't seen them, you have to go to Whimsy to check them out.  They are all quite stunning.
Sentiment is from their digital set, "Vintage Sentiments".
Thanks for stopping by today!

Yarn is BG23 plus B21 - I think another colour for shading too, but I forget what.
Some Prismacolour Marker, "Cream" also in the white areas
I used the hat from "Gift Horse", a rubber image, and fussy cut it out before pasting it on.
The gorgeous papers are from "Pretty Pastel" papers, and "Butterfly Breeze 1" papers.  I just adore the papers that Tracy of Whimsy Stamps designs.  I don't need to go out and get any other paper with her gorgeous array to choose from!
She also did the hilarious sentiment you see to go with this image.  It is found in the "Various Occasions" sentiment pack.  It is such a great variety of sentiments, go check it out!
Thanks for looking today peeps!

Snow Fun

My daughters both said, any card with penguins will do for their Christmas card this year.  So, this is one of them.
I coloured the image with Copic markers. I like to show dimension on white objects using a varied range of light greys and colours.  I used BV20, B91, E50, C1 and C2, BG90 and BG70 on both the polar bear fur and on the snowy ground (no E50 on the snow though).
Image is a rubber one called Snow Fun and it is found here:
Snowflake Dies from Whimsy as well as the sentiment, which is from the rubber set, "Christmas Moments".
We're getting down to the wire! Christmas is coming!!
